Technique | International Waltz and Quickstep
Welcome to Week 2 of Technique Classes! Every week this semester we will be using this area to answer questions you guys have asked and to bring out some extra tips for the dances we’ve covered!
If you have a question you want answered from a lesson, make sure to email them to Abigail at klein.625@osu.edu before the following Sunday of that lesson. All questions are good questions! If you’re confused someone else probably is too!
Technique and Tips
Footwork
In our lessons you may hear different directions for how to take your steps. Here our coach talks about the different types of steps and how to do them.
Rise and Fall
Rise and Fall are important aspects of several of the dances we’ll learn this semester like Waltz and Foxtrot. It adds a layer of complexity and beauty on top of the steps we already know.
Connection Points
Connection with your partner is definitely one of the most important parts of dance. Unfortunately, you can’t connect with your partner from six feet away.
Luckily, Dana is here to teach us a few more points on how to connect when we meet again!
Quickstep moves
Footwork and Rhythm
Now we can put these ideas to use for learning Quickstep!
These videos focus on the footwork and counting for the basic steps in Quickstep; the Follow in the first video and the lead in the second.
Rise and Fall
Pivot Turn

That’s it for technique! Remember, all of these clips are from questions we get throughout the week! If there’s something you want to see, just ask Abigail. Thank you to Abigail, Michael, and Dana for filming these videos and keeping us practicing!
