Rules and Policies
We will run this competition according to the current USA Dance DanceSport rulebook. All competitors should refer to the rulebook prior to completing the entry form and the competition. You may obtain the USA Dance Rules, Policies, and Bylaws rulebook at: https://usadance.org/general/custom.asp?page=DanceSportRules
We have reserved the right to disqualify couples that we find to be in violation in any of the rules listed on the rulebook or below.
Eligibility
Dancers are permitted to compete in two consecutive levels per style
Syllabus events are available for newcomer through gold dancers in that style.
Level eligibility at 34th annual OSU dancesport classic is determined by the YCN point system or a similar proficiency point system. You can find out more about the YCN points system at: http://ballroom.mit.edu/index.php/ycn-proficiency-points/. Dancers may not exceed six points at any level in which they plan to compete.
If you wish to register for newcomer, you must have started competing earlier than January 31, 2025
Adult and non-collegiate competitors are welcome. Competitors under 18 must email competitions.osudancesport@gmail.com for more information on policies.
Costumes
There are no costume restrictions, aside from the common decency rule!
All competitors are required to wear suede shoes and ladies high heeled shoes must have heel caps.
Failure to adhere to the common decency rule, and or wear appropriate footwear, can result in disqualification and or removal from the venue
Jacketing
If you’re not eligible for a level, but wish to help somebody other than a regular partner out by dancing TBA, you may dance down up to two levels below your highest level (Ex: a novice/pre-champ dancer may only jacket down to gold, a bronze/silver dancer may jacket a newcomer). The judged dancer will wear the number and you must wear a jacket of some sort over your costume.
“TBA”
If looking to TBA, register yourself with the partner as “TBA” during registration, and our team will be able to assist with amending registrations as needed at the welcome dance and the day of the competition.
If interested in finding a TBA ahead of time, please refer to the updated ultimate TBA spreadsheet at: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iOhc-nKPouMt14czuToZj08ak_cUSsRpEIFvj__OU64/edit?gid=1950813113#gid=1950813113
Otherwise, we’ll have a partner matching sheet available at the competition to assist.
